IMK successfully defended the City of Montréal in a defamation and abuse of rights lawsuit brought by a snow removal contractor following the publication of a news article concerning the performance of their contractual obligations. The judgment addresses key legal principles related to abuse of rights, the scope of a municipal elected official’s freedom of expression, and the applicable standards in defamation law within the context of press freedom. The matter is currently under appeal.
