A.B. v. Google LLC.

We represent the plaintiff A.B. against Google LLC. This lawsuit arises out of the defamatory allegations made against A.B. online that were republished and publicized by Google in its search results. To our knowledge, this case is the first time that Google is being held accountable in Canada for knowingly linking to false and harmful comments about an individual, hosted by a third-party website.

At first instance, the judge granted our client the highest moral damages award in connection with defamation in Québec history, as well as an injunction in Québec against further publication of links from Google. On appeal, our client has sought punitive damages and a broader injunction, while Google has challenged the award granted at first instance.
