Sophie represents clients in complex litigation in construction law, securities, real estate law, mining law as well as shareholders disputes. She handles demanding cases in terms of duration, scope, novel issues and technical and scientific aspects. Her areas of practice cover contractual disputes, directors’ liability and administrative law. She regularly appears before the Superior Court, as well as the Quebec Court of Appeal.

Since her arrival at IMK in 2000 Sophie has represented large corporations as well as individuals alike. She has participated in commercial arbitrations and has accumulated many years of experience as a director and corporate secretary for non-profit organizations.

Representative work

Ressources Strateco Inc. v. Attorney General of Québec: Ressources Strateco Inc. in the context of an action for $200 million in damages against the Québec Government for recovery of its investment losses following the refusal of the Minister of Environment to issue an advanced exploration certificate and following a moratorium.

Buesco Construction Inc. v. Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont: Buesco in the context of a 70-day trial before the Superior Court, and the Quebec Court of Appeal, following the abusive cancellation of its construction contract by HMR.

Talbot c. Autorité des marchés financiers: Autorité des marchés financiers and several of its employees in the context of a motion to dismiss an action in damages for an amount of $13 million based on abuse of procedure.

AbitibiBowater Inc. et RFP Acquisition Inc. v. Fibrek: Mercer International Inc. concerning the takeover bid for shares of Fibrek and its private placement for different bodies, from the Bureau de révision to the Quebec Court of Appeal.

Léger v. Garage Technology Inc.: Léger, the founder of an emerging company, in the context of an oppression remedy against an investment fund and its directors.

5100 Sherbrooke Commercial Trust v. Au Vieux Duluth Restaurants Inc.: Au Vieux Duluth Restaurants Inc. in defence to an action in damages by a landlord and as cross-plaintiff for abusive exercise of a right.

Beaudoin v. Business Development Bank of Canada: Beaudoin, former President of BDC, in a long trial covered by the media, petitioning for homologation of a transaction entered into upon termination of his employment and in defence in an action in damages.

Sulitzer v. Jacobson: Jacobson in a case involving a complex trust that had been established in Quebec and a multi-million dollar claim brought by a prominent French author.
