Maria joined IMK in 2014. She served as a law clerk to the Honourable Jacques Chamberland, of the Quebec Court of Appeal. Prior to joining IMK, she acted as legal counsel for the Commission of Inquiry on the Awarding and Management of Contracts in the Construction Industry (Charbonneau Commission).

Maria has represented corporations and governmental institutions in high-profile administrative law and commercial litigation files. She also represents individuals in the fields of real estate and insurance law. She has a strong interest in files with scientific or technical aspects as well as in appeals, in immigration law, in environmental law, in bankruptcy law, in human rights law and in private international law.

Representative work

Stasenko v. Québec (Attorney General): Stasenko in contesting the Minister of Immigration’s decision to apply a new restrictive selection grid to certain applications for a Quebec Selection Certificate for immigration.

Rahim v. the Minister of Immigration and the Gouvernement du Québec: Rahim in a class action for the reimbursement of fees to applicants for a Quebec Selection Certificate affected by the application of a new restrictive selection grid.

Garantie Abritat inc. v. Régie du bâtiment du Québec; Garantie habitation du Québec inc. (Qualité Habitation) v. Régie du bâtiment du Québec: Régie du Bâtiment in several cases after new legislative provisions came into force concerning guarantee plans for construction of new residences.

Rajesky v. Orenstein Little: Orenstein Little in a dispute relating to trustee fees of an estate trust.

Orenstein Little v. Fonds d’assurance responsabilité professionnelle du Barreau du Québec, 2016 QCCS 1450 : Orenstein Little in a dispute regarding the Fond’s refusal to defend its insured.

Kamran v. Minister of Immigration: Kamran in contesting the Minister of Immigration’s decision to reject applications for a Quebec Selection Certificate under the investor category.
